Captain’s House Serifos

We left the big and busy harbour of Piraeus, Athens, behind us and took the ferry to the island of Serifos. We couldn’t wait to reach our temporarily home for the next 3 days. (Because this is how it felt during our stay)

It was our first time on the island of Serifos and also our first stay at the Captain’s House.

The Captain’s House is an old town house that dates back to the 19th century. It’s located in the main village of the island called ‘Chora’. The house is owned and taking care of by the lovely couple Manos and Emmy, which has been in Manos his family since it was build.

The house is very spacious and has a lot of historic character from different time eras.

Manos and Emmy decided to change their busy lives in the city of Athens for a more balanced life on the island of Serifos. The Captain’s House is for them a perfect way to share their family history with people from all over the world and offer them a unique and authentic experience on Serifos.

Manos and Emmy have restored the house with their own hands, bringing it back to its original state, and we must say; they really succeeded in this. When you enter the house via the red doors a beautiful hallway with the original patterned tiled floors welcomes you and the whole interior brings you back in time. The house is decorated with antiques and vintage furniture, yet with the comfort and attention to details you like when you go on a holiday. And has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. From one side of the house you have a view over the sea and from the back side you look up to ‘Chora’ with all the gorgeous white houses.

The location of the house is perfect! From here you can wander through the little streets of ‘Chora’, go all the way up to the remains of the Venetian Castle and make your way to the main square of the village for a morning coffee or a drink in the evening. A nice thing to do is to go to the bakery behind the main square, get some fresh bread and Greek cheese pie (Tiropita) and enjoy your breakfast at the terrace of the house.

After this you are ready for the day and explore all the beauty that Serifos has to offer.

Manos and Emmy are also perfect hosts in offering the best tips, to make the most out of your stay on the island. You can feel their enthusiasm about the island and sharing real Greek culture with their visitors. They even surprised us in the morning with fresh eggs from their own chickens and when we left we got a small bag with some products they harvested from their own garden. For us, these are the gestures that made our stay extra special!

If you are looking for a unique and lovely place to stay during your holiday or weekend trip to the Cyclades islands, you don’t have to search any further.

You can follow their Instagram here. They post a lot of nice insides about the island and share pictures about how life takes places on the island and in the Captain’s House. Also, don’t hesitate to contact them; they are willing to help you out with all your questions!

The best time to travel to Serifos is from May till September.
